Royse and the Majority Text Enthusiasts

I’m working on my translation of the Epistle of James. I remind us all how we have constantly heard from Majority Text / Byzantine text enthusiasts about the Royse study on scribal habits, how scribes were more likely to drop a word than add a word. Okay, then, I expect the Majority Text / Byzantine text editors to add at least one or some of the following words back to their texts that are found in the NA28 text but not in theirs.

1:19 ESTW DE, MT has only ESTW
1:27 PARA TWI QEWI, MT has only PARA QEWI
4:1 KAI POQEN MACHAI, MT has only KAI MACHAI
5:10 EN TWI, MT has only EN
5:11 ESTIN hO KURIOS, MT has only ESTIN
5:16 EXOMOLOGEISQE OUN, MT has only EXOMOLOGEISQE
5:19 ADELFOI MOU, MT has only ADELFOI
5:20 PSUCHJN AUTOU, MT has only PSUCHJN

The NA28 has in fact moved a little toward the MT in this regard. For example, in James 2:14, older editions said only TI OFELOS, but now have agreed in the 28th edition with the MT as TI TO OFELOS. And in 2:15, older editions said only LEIPOMENOI, but the NA28 now says LEIPOMENOI WSIN like the MT. And in 4:10 added TOU. Three instances in James where the Nestle-Aland text moved closer to the Majority Text. But will the Majority Text / Byzantine Text-type enthusiasts ever budge? I’m not holding my breath. If it’s not in their favorite family of manuscripts, no amount of reason to the contrary ever suffices.

Updates to Epistles of John

I have uploaded updates to all 6 of my pdf documents of the three epistles of John. The updates had to do with the NA28 edition. There are a few changes to the Greek text, and also to the critical apparatus in the footnotes, as the NA28 removed the brackets of uncertainty on its readings that used to be in the NA27. The updates may be downloaded on my translation download page.

Why the world hates you

“Do not marvel if the world hates you. It hated me, so it will hate you also.”

Why might the world hate us? Because we are not of the world. An example of how we are not of the world, is that we are not proud of our possessions, nor are we impressed by other people’s possessions. This really bothers people of the world. They really, really want you to be impressed with the girlfriend they have, or the husband they have, or the car they have, the job they have, etc. If you are not impressed, they really, literally, hate you.

They are “haters of the good people.” They hate you because you are good.

1 John 2:14-16: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If someone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of possessions, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, along with the lust of it, but whoever who does the will of God abides for ever.”

1 Peter 4:4 “Wherein they think it strange that you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they speak evil about you:”

Separation of Church and State

In America today, we have the opposite of separation of church and state.

My brethren in the USA, I urge you once again to work toward the separation of church and state. It will become more and more evident what a mistake it is that your churches are creations of the state, and your pastors are agents of the state. For it is incontrovertible in law that since your churches went to the IRS and asked them permission to be a 501(c)(3) corporation, that your church is therefore a creation of that law, and of that government. And that since your pastors went to the state and asked them permission to be a pastor, and received a license to be so, with all its conditionalities, that those pastors are agents of the state. My brethren, the situation of churches being corporations organized under certain statutes, and pastors being licensed by the state, IS THE VERY OPPOSITE OF SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.

Moreover, to do these things is in direct contradiction to the word of our Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” You see, rendering unto Caesar things that are God’s, is direct disobedience to this.

You know or should know, that when a church is a 501(c)(3) corporation, the IRS can dictate what a pastor can or cannot say from the pulpit, and can demand accountability of certain records about the church members, etc. And they can change the terms anytime and in any way they want, in the future. Do you think this is wise, especially in these end times?

Why not be like the apostle Peter, who said, “We ought to obey God rather than men”? And this is contrary to the constitution of the USA, which says Congress shall make no law concerning an establishment of religion. And this would be anathema to the American founding fathers. Patrick Henry was inspired to say his famous saying “Give me liberty, or give me death,” in 1775 after he witnessed a pastor being beaten to death in Culpepper, Virginia, for refusing to get a license to be a pastor.

Don’t you know that in America, the constitution says that you are already endowed by your Creator with certain inalienable rights? The bill of those rights includes the right to assemble, the right to freedom of religion, and the right to free speech. Why would you then think that you need permission from any government to do what God has already commanded you to do, and that your government’s charter says you already have complete freedom to do? Surely you would not give away your birthright for a mere tax deduction?

Get rid of the noise

And a great and strong wind ripped the mountains, and broke into pieces the rocks before Yahweh; but Yahweh was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake; but Yahweh was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire; but Yahweh was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was a still, small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice to him, and it said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
