Socialism and the Bible

Socialism

The concept that everyone must get the same, or it is not fair, is a concept foreign to Jesus and the Bible.

Matthew 25:28-30 -Now then, take the talant of silver away from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talants. 29For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have himself an abundance. But the person who does not have, even such that he has will be taken away from him. 30And as for that worthless servant, cast him into the outer darkness. There, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Luke 19: 24-27 24And to some standing there he said, ‘Take the mina away from him, and give it to the one who has ten minas.’
25″And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’
26′”I tell you, to everyone who has, it will be given, but the one who has not, even such that he has will be taken away from him. 27But as for my enemies, those who had not wanted me to be king over them, bring them here, and slay them in front of me.'”

Jesus in the Bible Teaches the Law of Contracts and Private Property

Matthew 20:1-16

1″Similar therefore is the kingdom of heaven to a landowner, who went out early in the morning to hire workers together into his vineyard. 2And he came to an agreement with the workers, of a denarius a day, and sent them into his vineyard. 3And when he went away, about the third hour, he saw others, standing in the market place idle. 4To them also he said, “You also go out into my vineyard, and whatever is right, I will give you.” 5So they left. And again, he went away about the sixth hour and also the ninth hour, and did the same thing. 6And about the eleventh hour he went away and found others standing, and he says to them, “Why are you standing here the whole day idle?”
7They say to him, “Because no one has hired us.”
He says to them, “You also go out into my vineyard. And whatever is right, that you will receive.”
8And when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard says to his foreman, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, starting from the last ones, to the first ones.” 9And those who had arrived at about the eleventh hour, each received a denarius. 10And the ones who had arrived first expected to receive more, yet they received a denarius each themselves. 11So they got together and were complaining to the landowner, 12saying, “These last ones worked one hour, and you have treated them the same as us who have borne the burden of the whole day, and the scorching heat.”
13And he in answer to one of them said, ‘Friend, I am not doing you wrong. Did you not agree to a denarius with me? 14Take what is yours and go your way. So this is what I want to give to the last ones, as I also gave to you. 15Is it not permissible for me to do what I want with things that are mine? Or is your eye evil because I am generous?’
16Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.

Social Justice, making the poor become rich, re-distributing the wealth, is contrary to the teachings of Jesus.

Luke 6:20,21
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21Blessed are you who are going hungry now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are weeping now,
for you will laugh.

Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. So, if you make the poor rich, you are taking their eternal inheritance away, and you apparently hate them.

Matthew 26:11 – “For the poor you always have with you, but me you do not always have.”

Eradicating poverty is a concept not taught by Jesus.

Matthew 19:24: “And again, I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter into the kingdom of God.”

James 5:1-3: “Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and their corrosion shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as though it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.”

If you make the poor rich, they will lose God’s blessing.

WELFARE?

2 Thessalonians 3:10 – “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”

When reading the Bible, you definitely get an impression of what God thinks of individuals who say this isn’t fair, or that everyone should get the same regardless of what effort and risk they put in. God calls such people “wicked servants”! He throws such people into hell. Free Bible.

Socialism in the Bible

Inheritance Tax

The inheritance tax is a Marxist concept, embraced by the Democratic Party in America, but a concept which is repugnant to the God of the Bible. The law of ancient Israel had several mechanisms to ensure that property stayed within the same family for ever.

Numbers 36:7-9:
7 So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall cleave every one to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
8 And every daughter, that possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may possess every man the inheritance of his fathers.
9 So shall no inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall cleave every one to his own inheritance.

Deuteronomy Chapter 15
1 At the end of every seven years you shall make a release.
2 And this is the manner of the release: every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother; because Yahweh’s release has been proclaimed.
3 Of a foreigner you may exact it: but whatsoever of yours is with your brother your hand shall release.

Another is the “Year of Jubilee” which commanded the forgiveness of all debts every 49 years. This ensured that property was not foreclosed away from the family for ever, but only within one lifetime, and returned to the original family.

Leviticus 25:8-13

8 And you shall number seven sabbaths of years to you, seven times seven years; and there shall be to you the days of seven sabbaths of years, even forty and nine years.
9 Then shall you send abroad the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month; in the day of atonement shall ye send abroad the trumpet throughout all your land.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee to you; and ye shall return every man to his possession, and ye shall return every man to his family.
11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be to you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of the undressed vines.
12 For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
13 In this year of jubilee ye shall return every man to his possession.

Socialism in the New Testament?

I have heard Hugo Chavez and some other leaders say that the Bible teaches socialism. I have a verse for them:
2 Thessalonians 3:10 – “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”

Of course, a government should not impede citizens from working for themselves, in a business they want to pursue. If a government makes it illegal or too much of a hassle to do business, and then offer slavery to welfare hand-outs as the alternative, that is evil.

Same with housing. If regulations and building codes make it too expensive to have housing, and people are forced to be a servant to banks all their lives and to the government, that also is a great evil in the world. The people who are labeled as “poor” yet can build a house out of materials at hand, ask no one permission to do so, inform no one that they did so, and do with their land what they want, THOSE are the free and rich people.
